Ingredients

  • 6 ounces yellow onion (sliced in ¼" half moons)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (ground)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2-3 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
  • Caramelize onions until deeply browned, stirring often. Add water, a tablespoon at a time, to prevent burning.
  • Once onions are ready, add the soy sauce and balsamic vinegar and cook for 30 seconds, deglazing the pan.
  • Transfer the onions to a medium bowl and scrape the frying pan to get all of the glaze.
  • Cool the onions, then stir in the mayonnaise and sour cream. Chill the dip, covered, for 30 minutes or more to allow the flavors to blend.
